Review slow or incorrect answers

Use the completed board to inspect pinyin, translations, selections, and answer times without the timer running.

What Does HSK 3 Vocabulary Cover?

HSK 3 extends the revised HSK 3.0 syllabus to a cumulative target of 1,000 numbered entries. Its vocabulary supports connected conversations about study, work, travel, health, relationships, plans, experiences, and other familiar situations, with more precise descriptions and explanations than the first two levels.

The HSK 3 game selects correct answers from prompts introduced at Level 3. Practice the earlier levels separately when you also want to refresh their foundations. View the official HSK syllabus.

How to Study HSK 3 with the Game

Use short Standard-mode sessions to establish reliable recognition before adding more distractors with Rampage. HSK 3 introduces enough related vocabulary that fast guessing becomes less dependable, so revisit both incorrect answers and correct answers that took unusually long.

Vocabulary recognition is only one part of HSK preparation. Combine it with listening, pronunciation, grammar, sentence building, reading, character writing, and practice using the examination format offered by your test center.

HSK 3 Test Format, Duration, and Passing Score

The established paper and the revised HSK 3.0 pilot do not use exactly the same format, so identify the version attached to your test date.

Established format

Listening, reading, and writing: 80 questions in the published HSK 2.0 Level 3 paper.

Duration

About 90 minutes for the established paper. The September 2026 HSK 3.0 pilot lists roughly 83 minutes written plus a roughly 15-minute oral test.

Passing score

180 out of 300 for the established HSK 2.0 paper. Confirm the rules for a revised pilot.

HSK 3 Vocabulary Practice FAQ

The official description of the older HSK 2.0 Level 3 exam compares it with CEFR B1, not B2. That is only a broad reference: HSK and CEFR assess different combinations of skills, and the revised HSK 3.0 Level 3 should not automatically be treated as an exact B1 conversion. Use the requirements of a university or employer rather than relying on a general equivalence chart.

HSK 3 is a substantial step up from HSK 2 because it requires longer listening and reading comprehension and introduces an assessed writing section in the currently published HSK 2.0 paper. It is manageable when the earlier levels are automatic, but vocabulary recognition alone is not enough: sentence order, character recall, grammar, listening speed, and timed exam practice all affect the result.

Reaching HSK 3 in one year is reasonable progress, not inherently slow. The older official profile described about three semesters of study at two to three class hours per week, but elapsed months are less useful than consistent study hours and retained skills. A learner with prior Chinese knowledge or intensive immersion may progress faster, while someone balancing work or study may need longer—especially for the larger revised HSK 3.0 vocabulary target.

HSK 3 supports basic communication about familiar daily, study, work, and travel situations. You may handle predictable interactions and understand simple connected material, but your ability can vary sharply by skill: passing a written exam does not guarantee spontaneous conversation or broad real-world comprehension. HSK 3 is a useful milestone rather than a claim of fluency.

Learn the vocabulary and grammar for the syllabus used by your test date, then train every assessed section with official sample questions. For the current HSK 2.0 paper, balance listening and reading practice with sentence-order exercises and writing the required characters. Complete full papers under the real time limits, review why each answer was wrong, and repeat weak material in context instead of memorizing translations alone.

Use one or two official timed papers to confirm pacing, then review the mistakes and vocabulary you already collected instead of trying to learn a large new list. Revisit listening questions where small words changed the meaning, practice the writing task format, and check the rules and equipment for your test format. In the final day, prioritize sleep and a calm review over another exhausting mock exam.

Yes. The revised HSK 3.0 syllabus gives HSK 3 a cumulative target of 1,000 numbered vocabulary entries: 500 from HSK 1 and HSK 2 together, plus 500 introduced at Level 3. Four earlier headwords also gain an additional Level 3 meaning or grammatical use, so RadicalRampage provides 504 sense-specific Level 3 prompts without repeating the earlier-level prompts.
