How German A1 Practice Works

The game focuses on rapid written recognition: seeing an English meaning and identifying its matching German form.

1

Read the English prompt

An English meaning appears in the center, surrounded by possible German answers.

2

Recognize the German word

Choose the matching German form quickly. Accurate streaks build your combo and can earn bonus time.

3

Review translations and mistakes

After the game, inspect translations, selections, and answer times without the timer running.

What Does German A1 Cover?

A1 is the first CEFR level. Learners work with familiar everyday expressions and basic phrases for concrete needs, including introductions, personal details, family, shopping, food, time, transport, and simple local information.

At A1, a learner can interact in a simple way when the other person speaks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help. Vocabulary recognition is only one part of this ability, so combine it with speaking, listening, grammar, reading, and writing.

Why Does This German A1 List Have 520 Entries?

CEFR does not prescribe one universal A1 vocabulary list. Radical Rush’s imported German study source resolves eligible level-aligned headword and part-of-speech entries into 520 distinct A1 answer targets.

Multiple ordered English meanings belonging to the same target are combined in one table row. The total therefore counts playable German answer targets, not every meaning, inflected form, or expression listed in external exam reference material. View the Goethe A1 reference list.

German A1 Exam Expectations

A1 exams check whether you can handle very basic communication, not whether you have memorized one universal word list.

Listening and reading

Understand familiar names, words, notices, and very simple sentences when the context is clear.

Speaking and writing

Introduce yourself, ask and answer simple personal questions, fill basic forms, and write very short messages.

Exam rules

The exact tasks, duration, and passing score depend on the German certificate provider; the CEFR hub explains why.

About This Practice Page
